Pattern Exercise
.....[aka. I Flunk on Fish]
Lots of extras, tips and tricks in week six lesson pages. New ways to work with strokes, x-tras, path operations, find & replace, etc., etc. Way to much to mention here. Mostly I fiddled and tested the suggested techniques then deleted the files after testing. If I had to pick a favorite, I think it might be the text outline. I've run into trouble with that before in more than one program. Never thought of your method, Sara. [Big Duh when I spotted it! LOL] That's great. Gives you much more control. Thanks.
It think what I really learned from this class is that I need to purchase Illy and pass on upgrading to FHMX. Your lessons are loaded, but the program itself seems severely flawed. I could live with the outdated interface. It's the memory leaks that have been driving me crazy. And they seem worse when working with more complex paths and some of the text effects that FH makes easy become nightmares when they suddenly start throwing out of memory errors and such. I have plenty of memory for any other programs or combinations of programs that I may want to use. But with FH, I have to shut down absolutely everything else to to anything complex and then cross my fingers that it will save. I hear people with a bit less memory complaining of freezes and crashes on a regular basis.
I do still want to investigate the Master Page function in more depth. That sounds like something that could be extremely useful. It's far beyond the scope of this intro class. Way too many tools to cover here in six weeks. We did seem to at least touch on everything though. I think you have us pointed in the right direction...you Illy classes. lol!!
Tiled Patterns:
I am afraid I failed miserably at drawing the fish and tessellations in general. Way too much vector math and patience involved. Especially for patterns that usually give me a headache if I look at them for five minutes. Esher designs are fascinating in their execution, but I am not really what I would call a fan. Don't know that I am alone, cause around here, those ties always make it to the sale bins in museum stores. [grin]
This pattern of piled up triangles & hexagons, loosely based on another Esher fish, came out a bit *off* with that broken horizontal in there. Could have a really annoying gift tie made from it though...haha
Create Any Image You Would Like From The Tools
[ aka. Ut-Oh! Do I Have to Think?!?!?!?!]
Don't
ask what it is. Just a doodle. I had to find something to do with
those furry globs several of us were trying to shoot
of
the Moon & Mars the
other night...and into the wee hours. I fooled with thresholds and layers
over in PSP8, then imported the altered moon glob over to FH10. Pulled
a circle out with lens fill, added shape, ding and text.
The only way I could get it to save in tact and with the horrid jaggies FH added for a websave was to do a screenshot from PSP and take it back over there to save. I find it interesting [and more than a bit irritating] how, even with select all in document, when exporting or copy/pasting, pieces and parts will be lost. Odd. Also, this time FW failed me. Not only was all the text gone, but the image became very soft and furry. Ah well. At least I got a bit of practice out of one of those late night glob snaps.
And don't even ask me who the guy who is quoted is. I don't have a clue. Just thought the words sort of fit the other night when *the girls* were howling at the full moon from several spots on the US map.[grin]
It's been fun experimenting with Freehand this summer, Sara. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us with Fireworks this fall. Feel free to go easy if you would like. lol
Until then,
